Yes/No it is cheaper to sew your own clothing

January 22, 2011

Janus explains, No, it is not cheaper to sew your own clothing. Mass production of ready-to-wear has driven costs way down of fairly sturdy and cute fashions. You can go to Target and get professional and clothing for a fraction of what you can sew for. For example, just using ballpark figures, on fabric alone, [...]

January 9, 2011

Well here we are. Of course I am screwing up already and having a “learning experience.” I wanted to do those Hong Kong seams that I messed up in one of my last projects, and well, I messed them up again. Sigh. Here are some pics of the final stage of the muslin fitting. I [...]

Vintage chest

December 28, 2010

No, I am not talking about elderly boobage, but about this cool little chest I bought to house my vintage sewing machine feet. It came filled with buttons, so that was pretty cool too, though it gave my OCD a run for its money in sorting the buttons. Irresistable.

No, I Will Not Clean Your Bathroom….

December 14, 2010

I don’t understand some people. A lot of people actually. Hey, maybe its just me. But just because I happen to sew doesn’t mean that I am just thrilled as a clam at high tide to do all your mending. Why in the world would you think it is just completely appropriate to impose your [...]

Snuggie FAIL

November 23, 2010

How is that even possible. Well I cut out the pattern (just huge blocks basically) – got out my adorable Little Mermaid fleece, and…. IT IS TOO FRIGGIN’ SMALL. I needed 60 inch width fleece. I have 45 inch width fleece. FAIL. Money quote: Do the people in the commercial look like they’re in some [...]

Lady Grey Week Two (Part Four)

November 17, 2010

I made a decision. Yes, sometimes this can be agony. I chose the pattern size from my HB (high bust) measurement so that I didn’t get linebacker shoulders and back. I think though I need to see how the fit would be if I used two sizes up for my normal bust measurement. AND perhaps [...]

Lady Grey Week Two (Part Three)

November 17, 2010

Wow, I am really baffled by the length discrepancies I ran into while constructing the front to the front side since I had no such issue with the back pieces. I am going to have to be really careful when doing this for realz. When I got the front and back sewed together as well [...]
